Sinterclass Entry 2020 in Harlem – Up Lanbrook

Sinterclass arrives this year, two years after Corona as usual. On Sunday Sint and de Peyten will arrive by steamer in Heimstede and Harlem. In Zandvoort, Sinterklaas arrives as usual via the beach. How Saint Nicholas got to the Marsmanplein in Haarlem-Noord remains a surprise…

At Haarlem Centrum, the steamer arrives via Spaarne and the swamps of the Koudenhorn around 1 p.m. From there he goes on horseback to the Grote Markt. “In total, Sinterklaas takes more than a hundred petins with him,” says Mark Schulthes of Stichting Sinterklaasintocht Haarlem. “Of course there is also music, there will be Pietenband with Zangpieten.”

Sinterklaas is greeted by the mayor of Grote Markt, after which the children can shake hands with the saint, give him a drawing and take a picture with him.

“It’s really important, but that makes it look great,” Schulthes says. “As the capital of the North of the Netherlands, we are of course obligated to make it a great access.”

Gingerbread ice cream

In Zandvoort, Sinterklaas and Pieten they traditionally arrive via the beach. At about 11 am, they dock near the roundabout and casino. “Since last year, entry has had a new approach,” says Yvette of the Zandvoort Sinterklaas Committee. “All activities are taking place now in the center, kids can play different games there. They can shake hands with Sinterklaas, there is a photo booth and we have ginger ice cream.”

Also in Zandvoort, the mayor welcomed Sinterklaas after he drove a lifeguard brigade vehicle from the beach to the town hall. “We also have a surprise for Sinterklaas there,” Yvette says. “Around 12.00 we will quickly rally with as many people as possible.”
