#271 “Our Relationship Will End Before The Baby Comes”

Jesse has never been kind to Maud’s baby news. Then it turns out that Maud’s ex-Tommy might be pregnant with his new girlfriend. When Maud’s editor-in-chief asked her if she wanted to go on a press trip for a champagne trip, Maud decided to openly tell them she was pregnant. But her editor-in-chief’s reaction is also disappointing: “Oh dear…nice then,” she exclaimed. Maud fears that she will soon be unemployed. Then the editor-in-chief called her…

“Sorry Maud. I know it’s Friday night, but I want to apologize for my reaction,” I hear the editor-in-chief explain on the other end of the line. “I should have reacted differently to the news of your pregnancy and I’m sorry.” I see that Jiu looks angry that I have to interrupt our romantic date with a business conversation, so I walk into another room.

She continues, “I’ve thought about it again and I’m very happy with your work. Would you like to go to the champagne area after all? I’ll see if Kimberly can come too, so you can sample all the champagne and take pretty pictures. You can contribute to the travel trip and I’ll make sure.” Only on arrival fun excursions without the alcohol mod!”

Then I come to my next point; I had to share it with you…” I paused for a moment. “Would you like to write a column about your pregnancy? I’d like to discuss the details after the weekend.”

I start radiating from ear to ear. Your column! I scream “That looks great!” We’ll discuss the details next week, have a nice weekend and run excited to bring the news to Jio. But he seems less excited about my potential new job.

“So you’re going to share your life openly with a hundred thousand readers? The baby isn’t born yet! And what would you do if you were pregnant? You really don’t go to work. That’s really bad for the baby! You always want more work and I know how you are with deadlines!” That’s a lively discussion. Geo thinks Aries is very special. He thinks it’s a weird idea if you share it with everyone. He is also afraid that I will have a lot of work pressure, which is of course bad for the child. However, I find it unreasonable and annoying. „I am pregnant, I am not disabled! I won’t lock myself up in the house for months,” I scream.

I try to explain to him that writing is a kind of therapy for me. I hope to help other young women and of course I will be sharing all columns with him first. I will not let this writer’s dream in an article take away from me like this.

Jiu mumbles that I should give her a chance, but then sits on the sofa with an angry head and then doesn’t say anything to me anymore. I feel the tears running down and I try to wash them off with a sip of non-alcoholic red wine. By the way, it tastes like expensive grape juice…

Half an hour later I finished the match “Who can shut up for the longest time”. “What’s going on, my love?” I whispered trying to resolve this discussion as an adult.

“Only, you bastard. My father.” With great effort come out the story with Jio. Apparently he went to his parents to tell the baby news, but his parents put up a big fight. “I’ve never seen them scream like that. My dad ran off. He hasn’t slept at home for two nights and I’m so excited to tell my parents the baby news…but in a fun way!”

Jiu sits on his speaking chair and shakes. He is suddenly afraid of parenting, afraid of whether our relationship will survive and afraid of whether everything will be fine with the child. “Soon our relationship will be over before the baby comes!?” He says in his eyes so much panic that I almost cried. But somehow I have to laugh. “You haven’t gotten rid of me yet, I really like you!” , chuckles, as I give him a reassuring kiss.

Jiu cuddles close to me again. He whispered, “Sorry, I responded a little harshly.” “Of course I want to support you, but I’m afraid things will go wrong between us. I don’t want to push you or anything, but I… well.” There was silence for a moment. Then he looks at me with his puppy eyes. “I just want to be with you every day. I want to take care of you and know how you are. I really just want to live with you…”

Maud (23 years old) loves to party and travel. I recently started working as an editor for a magazine. She is pregnant with her new boyfriend Geo and recently started living alone again in her house near Amsterdam. Every week she reads her adventures in a new way episode From the book Maud Night.
