Video – Helmut Marko flies to Tokyo to revive Honda partnership + photos

As it stands, Red Bull’s relationship with Honda will deepen even before the start of the 2026 season. But Red Bull advisor D. Helmut Marko says the team is still studying its options for 2026, but also stresses that any relationship with Porsche is now buried. The Austrian team, which had success with Max Verstappen, had initially bought Honda’s intellectual property to build its own engines when the Japanese car giant announced it was leaving Formula 1 late last year. However, Red Bull wasn’t quite ready to become a working team, so they agreed to an extension that would see Honda build its engines until the end of 2025. These engines are known as Red Bull Powertrains (RBPT) and the plan was to build power units and gearboxes exclusively in Milton Keynes from 2026. That’s when new technical regulations come into effect, and after bringing some of the best engineers and mechanics to the track over the past 18 months, Red Bull has been busy working on their own engines.

Milton Keynes Power Units
To achieve this goal, they built a new facility in Milton Keynes that will serve as a resource for their home base. It is the facility where their power units will be built. The principle works just as it does at Mercedes in Brackley and Brixworth, where the German automaker uses Brixworth to manufacture its engines. However, there was also the possibility for Red Bull that the four-time champions could once again outsource their engines, this time to Porsche. However, the German company began to push for more control and wanted to buy more shares in Red Bull Technologies than the Red Bull management was willing to issue. This was an insurmountable objection and as a result the deal with Porsche was scrapped.

Not a Porsche but a Honda again?
At the moment, Red Bull is developing well into a working team in 2026. “No, it’s over, too.” Dr.. Marko for Sterreich newspaper. The first engine we developed actually ran on the test bench, so we’re doing well for ourselves there as well. There is now a good chance that the Milton Keynes-based company will continue its deal with Honda within four years. Dr. explained. Signal. Dietrich Mateschitz, owner and founder of Red Bull, was unable to oversee negotiations with Porsche, but Dr. Marco confirmed that this “nothing to do with him” Failed deal. Mateschitz is said to have some unconfirmed health issues.
