Jim Farley, Ford CEO, reveals why the 2024 Mustang will continue to run on gas

The Ford Mustang could become its own part in the coming years, forcing those still hungry for a powerful American coupe to rush to the brand. This includes customers outside of the United States, who account for about 20% of Mustang sales.

“People are leaving the part, like Dodge, so we have a chance to introduce something really new about the Mustang,” Farley said afterwards. The shape of the 2024 Mustang “This gives us a huge advantage, because a lot of people still love this type of car.”

Although the American muscle car segment is smaller than it used to be, there is still a demand for vehicles that can also attract attention and new customers to their own brands.

While Ford invests in electric vehicles, Farley says the automaker will continue to invest in its traditional business. It’s part of the CEO’s new plan to increase sales in his conventional, electric and commercial vehicle businesses.

Bill Ford, president of Farley and Ford, declined to say whether the seventh-generation Mustang was expected to be the last gasoline-powered version of the car.

“If people don’t want them anymore, it will go away, but I personally think people will want to have this car for a while,” Ford said, adding, “That day will come with tears in my eyes.”

Farley said the main reason Ford continued to produce gasoline-powered Mustangs was the success of the Mustang Mach E, as the all-electric crossover debuted in late 2020 and the gas-powered engine has already been operational within a few months. Outdated.

With nothing in common with the gas-powered Mustang except for the name, Mach-E led Ford to become the second best-selling electric vehicle brand in the country.

The success of electric vehicles has given the automaker more flexibility to continue using gas-powered models, compared to rival automakers that have to chase selling electric cars and legal emissions allowances.

There is a demand for car companies to have a certain number of points of regulation each year. If the company cannot reach the goal, it can buy credits from other companies, such as Tesla, that have excess credits.

“To somehow make the Mustang Mac-E, make this car happen,” Farley said. “Competitors buy emissions rights and can’t think of this type of vehicle.”

Dodge said such emissions regulations are one reason it will have to end production of its gas-powered Charger and Challenger by the end of next year. Chevrolet is expected to end production of the gas-powered Chevrolet Camaro in the coming years as part of: General Motors plans to offer exclusively electric vehicles by 2035.

A spokesperson for Dodge, a division of Stilanten in the announcement of electric muscle cars, the company is celebrating “the end of an era – and the beginning of a bright new electric future.”

A Chevrolet spokesperson said the company would not comment on future production, but added, “The Camaro continues to play an important role in Chevrolet’s lineup of high-performance vehicles and remains the highly desirable vehicle that our customers love.”

General Motors, Ford’s biggest competitor in Crosstown, is putting Sunset on its gas-powered products with the goal of better competing against the Tesla Electric Vehicle Leader.

Meanwhile, Farley said he wants to grow his traditional business with “open products” that spark discussion and interest, such as the 2024 Mustang, including the new “Dark Horse” variant.

“I had a T-shirt at the dealer that said ‘Ford for everyone.’ That’s kind of our attitude,” Farley said. “We want to be a black horse. We are a dark horse against Tesla when it comes to electric vehicles. We want to introduce a new game.”
