- The ultimate goal: to integrate the game into the family and in many other places in a way that provides greater security and mutual trust so that children grow resilient and adults remain resilient.
Serious Neuzen, a startup from Boortmeerbeek, has designed a board game with the social profit organization NEKTARI from Puurs-Sint-Amands that should ensure better communication within families. “The Serious Neuzer” is a board game to enhance communication and relationship between people, old and young. Innovation Origins spoke to founder Merel De Vleeschouwer on this episode of Start of the Day.
How did you come up with the idea for this game?
“I want to contribute to more vulnerability, openness and more communication between people. If someone “dares” to show their vulnerability, that creates instant connection and, above all, a lot of beauty. We can use some of that now. I’m not the only one who’s committed Now to communicate, and dare to feel and dare to trust in times of anxiety sometimes. I just want to do it my way. And this is playful and powerful and has a touch of magic. In every relationship (parents / children – partners – colleagues – friends – acquaintances) often It’s hard to feel secure enough to be completely yourself. That’s a shame. As human beings, we make judgments too quickly. I want to change that and focus completely on what binds us together: which is love and tolerance. Less judgment and more trust.”
Young people are also having a hard time.
This is already evident from recent health surveys. They are facing hard times, relationships are under severe stress, and it is financially difficult for many. So, more than ever, we need wit, to be heard, to communicate and to offer perspective as a parent. The way parents communicate with their children can determine their confidence later on. The stability and warmth of the family in which you grew up is an important foundation for your later happiness and resilience.”
What is the difference with the classic board game?
“Classic board games basically create fun and competition. This is so much fun. I also go with a full match to win. However, there are a few games that consciously focus on training social skills. This game. The game is a facilitator and a way to start a conversation.” Guides you to express yourself in a constructive and connected manner and focuses on possibilities and solutionsmanipulator Emotional awareness and teaches you to take emotional responsibility. Let’s say someone in the game says they want more recognition. Then it will be determined by asking exactly how that person wants to get that. Because we are all different. It becomes more real than communicating with each other in the daily grind. Achieving such a goal through a game is innovative.”
Who do you want to reach in the game?
“The game is primarily intended for families. But it can be used more widely in all possible relationships. It is ideal for use by therapists, family counselors, teachers, etc. This game also comes in a slightly different form for companies. Every team leader can use this game To test the interaction with current topics, or the interrelationship of the individuals in his team. And that is in a very effective way.”
Does the game also work preventively?
“If every family or team plays this game at least once a month, I am convinced that the struggles and struggles can never get really big because you bring these problems to the table at the right time. On the one hand, the game challenges everyone who comes out more introverted, and on the one hand, the game challenges everyone who comes out the most introverted, and on the one hand Others, the greater the openness to others will consciously give space and encourage them to listen patiently. The game is guaranteed to have a long-term impact.”
What are your experiences with this game?
“Of course I’ve played the game a few times myself in my mixed family, which has been a test run for the audience. It’s great to disarm what comes out of these kids’ mouths. We were also surprised by how rich their emotional world was and how well they knew what they especially wanted and needed. There was Always a teardrop of gratitude. Plus, I use a team building methodology. You see it just works! People always come home in a positive way, but they are all grateful for the things mentioned and the clarification this provides.”
What are your future plans?
“Marketing and sales betting is now the message to get this game in as many living rooms as possible and in as many workplaces as possible. In addition, I want to complement both the business game and the people game with an online training process on nonviolent teamwork and nonviolent pedagogy. This way, not only will our income (because my partner will join us soon as well) be based on selling the game or building the team, but we will also generate passive income to cultivate some stability.
The greater the success, the greater the opportunities to spread our message and the greater our impact. Apart from that, we also want to give enough weight to the social goal. The option to work with NEKTARI is one of them. But on the other hand, we want to look for possibilities to make this game available to people who do not have the same freedom or financial capabilities. “
