Fewer population drowned in 2021

Eighty residents died from accidental drowning. In the past 10 years, 73 percent of drownings occurred in open water: a trench, river, canal, canal, recreational lake, lake, pond, or at sea. 21% of drownings occurred in and around the home.

Biggest drop in drownings among young children since the 1950s

Since 1950, the number of accidental drownings has fallen sharply, especially among children under the age of 10. Since the 1980s, the decline in the number of accidental drownings has been less pronounced. In recent decades, the number of accidental drownings has been higher among people aged 60 or older.
