By Harry Schipper – Take to the water with local – and even international – predatory fish experts to learn as many tricks as possible from anglers who are completely dedicated to catching predatory fish.
On Saturday, fifteen young members of the Harderwijk De Snoek fishing club sailed with several fishing boats over Veluwemeer and Wolderwijd to take a full day of lessons from experienced predatory fishermen.
The fifteen, thirteen boys and two girls, aged between ten and seventeen, receive one-on-one lessons from predatory fish experts on the best way to catch predatory fish such as pike, zander and fish. It is no coincidence that these three types of fish are also common in Randmeren, says youth board member Merijn de Bruijn of hsv De Snoek, who is responsible for publicity within the twelve-member board, along with four other young members.
“In the mid-eighties, a lot of bream was caught in the River Ranmeren and a lot of pike were released. Now, after nearly forty years, there is an incredibly beautiful resinous stock in Randmeren. There are specimens up to twenty meters in length. It has grown The stock of zander and asp in Randmeren has increased significantly in recent years. It can be up to eighty centimeters long. This type of fish originates from the Danube region. So it is an exotic species that arrived in Holland about twenty years ago, first in rivers and now also in lakes “.
De Bruyne, who is of course also a hunter, has caught them on occasion. “It is a very strong and fast fish, and it is very aggressive in its bite. You really get a bang on your penis. So it is a real sight.”
Hunting Club Harderwijk is located in a beautiful club building on Marie Curiestraat, next to the newly opened Zonnepark Harderwijk. And right in Veluwemeer. The association has its own port where dozens of fishing boats dock. To protect the property of club and club members from thieves – “fishing boats are very popular” – both the harbor and the club building are completely enclosed by heavy steel fencing. Access to the three berths where the boats are moored is provided with an additional fence.
The club currently has about 3,300 members, of which three hundred are young members, making it the largest sports federation in Harderwijk. Merijn de Bruijn immediately adds that there is a caveat to this huge number of members. “Many of our members are people who go fishing once in a while. For example, they are here in the summer with their kids at a camping site.
To fish you need a fishing license issued by fishing associations like us. If you want to fish in Randmeren, you can also get a permit in Elburg, Zeewolde or Nijkerk. We call them sleeping members, because they do little in the association.”
De Snoek carries out a first-class predatory hunt for its young members once a year. “It’s a gigantic organization. Just find a lot of people with good material. They even came all the way from Belgium in boats. They are real fishermen with the latest equipment and advanced fish finders, who know what they’re doing. They are almost professional, so it’s really good for kids to learn.” them,” says De Bruyne.
When asked whether sport fishing has changed, because it has been scientifically proven not so long ago that fish also suffer pain when they are hung, he replied: “Our association pays great attention to meadow fishing. The fish are unhooked very carefully and always returned. We believe that it is from It is very important to pass this on to our youth from the beginning.”
The young members who were allowed to join gathered early Saturday morning on De Biezen Island in Wolderwijd, where they went on a predatory fishing expedition. During the hunt, she was visited by the film crew and sports consultant Marcel Compangen, who offered him a tour of the participants. The young fishermen and their guides were having lunch at the club, after which they were out in the water again for a few hours. The day ended with a barbecue. In the end, 32 spears were caught, the largest of which was 117 cm.
The recordings of the film will soon be available on the websites of “Roofmeister” and “Roofvisweb”, which will be updated by Merijn Fishing alias Merijn de Bruijn.
