News from Berkelland » Promotions to celebrate the women of VIOS 1

By Editors on May 30-2022

Beltrum – In 2022, the 50th Anniversary of Women’s Soccer will be celebrated in Vios. The second team of VR 7-7 was already able to become champions in April, but now the flagship VR1 can put the icing on the cake. Last weekend, FC Eibergen was defeated and a qualifying ticket secured. VIOS VR1 still has a chance to upgrade to 2nd class on its anniversary. Good result also for departing coach Guus Borskamp. It is still not known who the opponent will be, continue the VR1 program. You can do this via www.viosbeltrum.nl.

Anniversary
This Saturday 4 June there will be celebrations in the context of the fiftieth anniversary. The opening is at 12:00 and from 13:00 the start of the Jean Chouf Championship. In 1972, it was Jan Elshof who put women’s football on the map in Vios. Under his leadership, a women’s team of 15 men joined the competition for the first time. He was a coach, leader and held various management positions for many years. Today, Jean Chouf remains the star of women’s football. It’s good to name the tournament after him.

Festive evening
After the tournament there will be a barbecue party for the participants at 6 pm. From 8 pm there will be a gala evening in the canteen with the awarding of the championship prize, after which we will make it a fun evening with all of us. Musical accompaniment will be provided by DJ Retlow, who is in house at all (musical) markets to make it a great evening.

Miller Benny Minsink is far from thinking about stopping

NEEDE – Mills across the country opened their doors this past weekend during National Mill Weekend. This is also the case in Neede, where Bennie Mensink and colleagues have highlighted the plant in Diepenheimseweg. This weekend, they drew attention to hiring new mills, as this is minimal at the moment. Minsink: “It’s a beautiful craft that should not be lost.” About two dozen visitors gathered in and around the factory on Saturday morning. The pies are baked, you can weave bamboo baskets and you can take a factory tour. “In this department we make bread mixtures, pancakes and cakes. Our self-built machinery is powered by grinder blades. We are doing well here,” says Mincink satisfied.

Stop
Young and old can enjoy the windmill, which was recently added to the UNESCO World Heritage List. “Hopefully young people will sign up for Miller’s training, because it’s so much fun to let that go to waste,” Mincink says. In the meantime, Minsink hopes to remain active as a grinder for years to come. “I’m not thinking about stopping for long, I hope to continue until I’m old.”
