Mama Shelter opened his first location in Portugal in 2022

Mama Shelter, the uniquely French chain of daring, colorful and fun hotels, lands in Lisbon and becomes the first Mama Address on the Iberian Peninsula: Mama Lisboa is set to open on January 12, 2022.

Mama Shelter is a family run business that has disrupted the hotel scene with its sweet, laid-back, fun and friendly approach to hospitality. Founded in Paris in 2008 by the Trigano family (the founders of Club Med), Mama Shelter offers its guests a combination of shared fun, affordability and exceptional service in cities and neighborhoods with a unique story.

Mama Lisboa is located in the heart of Lisbon, between the lively Príncipe Real and the Marquis of Pombal Square, just a 10-minute walk from the Eduardo VII Park, which offers panoramic views of the city. Guests at Mama Lisboa will be moments from famous historical treasures and attractions just waiting to be discovered. Surrounded by traditional cafés and cultural institutions, right next to the famous Botanical Garden and the famous Liberdade Street, Mama Lisboa is immersed in the dynamic atmosphere of the city for a true Lisboa experience.

cutting edge

Reflecting the character of the Portuguese capital, Mama Lisboa takes on a vibrant and colorful feel, as well as more “sophisticated” hand-painted and custom-designed elements to create an environment (almost) as unique as one of Lisbon’s Seven Hills. Mama Shelter brings the spirit of the capital to life and aims to be a place where tourists and locals alike can meet and share a variety of experiences. The hotel will always be open for guests who just want to visit the rooftop bar and restaurant – a key feature of Mama Lisboa’s concept, which co-founder Serge Trigano describes as a “restaurant with rooms above it”.

Located in cities with an abundant history and life, Mama Shelter Hotels embrace local heritage. Mama Lisbon’s design pays homage to the rich history of the Portuguese capital. Designed by the company’s design team, Mama Design Studio, the authentic style that adorns the walls, floors, and ceilings of Mama Lisbon is a playful blend of pop culture, bohemian style, and Portuguese nautical heritage. From the Viúva Lamego tiles on the facade to the blue wave rug on the bedroom floors, Mama Lisboa is designed to create a warm space—a space that takes care of its guests—while evoking the free spirit that breathes through the fresh, salty air. The nearby Tagus River.

At Mama Lisboa, a Portuguese interpretation of a French brasserie, guests are presented with a menu that combines delicious Portuguese classics, French specialties, and Mama Lisboa’s classic signature dishes. In addition to the restaurant, the new address will feature a pizzeria serving Mama’s famous pizza – which can also be taken away for the first time. There is also a large island bar made of local marble, which will serve up great cocktails, signature Portuguese coffees, smoothies and freshly squeezed juices. Food and drink can be enjoyed indoors in a cheerful atmosphere that combines contemporary pop décor with beautiful elements of Portuguese heritage – tiled pillars, capitals decorated with Bordalo Pinheiro fish-ceramics, fish-shaped pendant lamps; Or outside, on a green, white and terracotta painted patio bathed in the Lisbon sun and the perfect spot for the ultimate gastronomic experience.

When the sun goes down, Mama Lisboa is the perfect place for you. With a fantastic view of Lisbon and the Tagus River, the hotel’s rooftop is the perfect place to watch the golden sunset over the city skyline. Open from morning to evening, the rooftop has a kitchen, briquette bar, DJ station, and plenty of areas to rest and relax. At night or during the day, under the fairy lights or the blue sky of Lisbon, the Mama Lisboa roof invites its guests to create lasting memories.

eight floors

Spread over eight floors, the 130 Mama Lisboa Bedrooms were designed by Mama Design Studio to create the perfect relaxed and idyllic ambiance. With open bathrooms and a Portuguese-inspired rug covering the entire floor, the colorful bedrooms reflect Portugal’s rich history. The original materials used range from table tops made from recycled bottle stoppers produced in Portugal, cork-framed smart TVs (a treasure of southern Portugal), Portuguese straw lampshades, and decorative artwork by Bordalo Pinheiro. Bedrooms also feature free WIFI, brand new organic and plastic-free products, and TV with a wide range of complementary movies (adults only included).

“Mama Lisbon is a compendium of the dazzling light of the city, the energy and apathy that reign there, and the modernity and creativity of its residents. Your only problem will be to tear yourself free to get out and experience the magic of experiencing this city,” explains Serge Trigano, co-founder of Mama Shelter.
